The Alaska Partnership for Teacher Enhancement is proud to present the Summer 2005 Institutes.

These standards-based institutes have been developed as highly interactive so educators may explore new and different ways to develop curriculum and instruction that address real life Alaskan issues while improving leadership and teaching behaviors so that all students can achieve academic excellence.Mentoring Instructors and Participants 2004

6th Annual APTE Summer Mentoring Institute

What: This institute focuses on developing the skills needed for building successful mentoring relationships with new teachers or principals. The interactive design of the Mentoring Institute will address the skills, barriers, processes, benefits, and other issues inherent and necessary in effective mentoring relationships.

When: July 25th-28th, 2005, 8:30am - 4:00pm

Where: UAA Commons, Room 107, Anchorage, Alaska

Participants: The institute is intended to serve the mentoring professional development needs of APTE teacher mentors, principals intending on entering into mentoring relationships with new principals, and other educators (space permitting).

Instructors: A team of professionals representing a variety of academic fields will work in a "hands on" fashion with the participants to help bring mentoring concepts and processes to life, while integrating the theory and application issues surrounding mentoring.

Host Community: Anchorage, Alaska
Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, is located in south central Alaska at the head of Cook Inlet with a breathtaking view of Mt. McKinley. Anchorage prides itself on its reputation of being a great place to live, visit and do business.

Anchorage has a long history of cultural diversity, which includes influence from the Russian, British, Spanish, American and Alaska Native populations. There are 96 schools located in the community, which are attended by approximately 49,200 students. As the center of commerce for the state, Anchorage is headquarters for the oil and gas industries, finance and real estate, transportation, communications, and government agencies. The Port of Anchorage handles 85% of the general cargo for the Alaska Railbelt area. Fort Richardson and Elmendorf AFB jointly employ over 9,000 active duty military personnel, while the tourism and recreation industries continue to grow in the area. Anchorage has over 162 parks, including 10 large reserves, and recreation facilities that include downhill and cross-country skiing, ice rinks, golf, swimming, and camping. Entertainment opportunities abound at the George Sullivan Sports Arena, Alaska Performing Arts Center and the Egan Convention Center as well as many other facilities in the city.

Anchorage will host the 2005 Mentoring Summer Institute.
